Smiths Falls Acting Police Chief Jodi Empey highlighted some of the changes now included in the Community Safety and Policing Act after it went into effect April 1st.
Among them are more specific requirements around declaring conflict of interests.
In addition, if an SFPS member is involved in an alleged criminal offence, it’s the police services duty to arrest the individual, but the service would request the ensuing investigation be conducted by a third party.
