Shorter version please: Lanark County is reminding drivers in the region to slow down in construction zones.
The county has a by-law authorizing the director of public works or designate to reduce speed limits within county construction zones to protect the workers and drivers.
The Highway Traffic Act allows municipalities to designate construction zones on roads in their jurisdictions and provides the ability to double fines for speeding in designated construction zones when workers are present.
This makes it easier for municipalities to reduce enforceable speed limits. Once designated by an authorized individual, a construction zone must be marked with signs in accordance with the regulation.
