Yesterday was Red Dress Day across Lanark and Leeds and the entire the country.
It’s all about coming together to raise awareness about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people in Canada.
5% of the population of Canada are indigenous women, yet they make up 16% of the total number of femicides each year.
Red dresses that are never worn, could be seen in front of people’s homes, police stations and outside town halls, as a silent tribute in their honour.
It’s a visual reminder that something needs to be done to stop the violence.
