We’re learning more about where funding north of $3 million is headed for Perth Healthcare.
It will go to form the Perth Family Health Team, which will provide a myriad of health services under one roof, resulting in more patients gaining access to health care.
Health Team Interim Director Suzanne Rintoul told myFM that once they received the funding they reached out to several services to come on board.
The method allows them to help more patients connect with primary care, as does adding some top tier talent.
Dr. Peter Cunniffe is a physician with the Health Team, he says the practice isn’t new, in fact in parts of Ontario it’s decades old.
The Health Team will also improve access to mental health professionals, addictions specialists, as well as primary care for those without a primary care provider.
Other services expected to be added are increased support services for older adults, occupational therapy, and Indigenous care navigation.
We asked the Doctor if having this model for health care makes sense as more people move to the area.
The $3.1 million in Perth is part of a $110 million dollar investment by the Ontario Government to add ver 400 new primary care providers and 78 new and expanded interprofessional primary care teams across the province.
Both Rintoul and Dr. Cunniffe say they are thrilled to be a park of the record investment.
They also note that if you’re looking for a physician, you have to call Health Care Connect at 1-800-445-1822, or you can register online here. (https://hcc3.hcc.moh.gov.on.ca/)
Please note, if you have a primary care physician or nurse practitioner do not register for Health Care Connect, doing so could result in you losing your current provider.
