The Town of Perth has introduced a new radar sign to monitor drivers’ speeds around town.
In a statement, the town said the sign can be used in many ways:
-Signs use radar detection to display the speed of oncoming vehicles (they’re solar powered so they can be easily deployed in any location).
-They’re used as a traffic calming measure to slow down vehicles by giving warnings to approaching vehicles if they’re exceeding the posted speed limit.
-Signs collect speed and volume data which is transmitted through the cloud to staff for further evaluation.
-OPP may be notified if compliance is low to provide extra enforcement in these areas.
With all that said, the statement notes that past town studies have shown that overall drivers are observing speed limits within the town limits.
