Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randell has officially proclaimed the town will recognize next week as National Accessibility Week.
This annual observance, established in 1987 following Rick Hanson’s 40,000 km Man in Motion Tour, aims to celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities and acknowledge efforts to enhance accessibility and inclusion across the country.
National Accessibility Week serves as a vital opportunity to spotlight the achievements of individuals with disabilities and the communities, workplaces, and individuals dedicated to removing barriers.
Mayor Randell emphasized the importance of this week in fostering a more inclusive society, noting that one in five working-age Canadians live with at least one disability.
Carleton Place will join communities nationwide in hosting events and activities to raise awareness and promote initiatives that support accessibility and inclusion. This proclamation underscores the town’s commitment to creating an environment where all residents can thrive without facing unnecessary obstacles.
As the week approaches, Mayor Randell encourages all citizens to help build a more accessible and inclusive community.
