There’ll be no Spirit of the Drum Powwow in Smiths Falls this year.
Manager of Economic Development and Tourism Julia Crowder says they failed to secure grant funding.
They’ll be meeting soon to ensure that won’t happen again.
Crowder says grants have grown increasingly competitive and larger tourism draws tend to receive the funding.
The town committed $20,000 to this year’s event, and other stakeholders provide annual funding. However the grants are what make the event possible.
