A 36-year-old man faces several charges after reports of an armed man in Carleton Place.
Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a gas station on Highway 7 shortly after 6:00 p.m. on May 30, 2024, when it was reported that a man in a vehicle had a handgun.
A man was arrested at the scene, and a pellet gun that looked like a real handgun was found. Someone also reported being threatened, and the vehicle was found to be stolen.
Curtis Griffith, age 36, of Ottawa, has been charged with:
- Assault
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
- Using an imitation firearm while committing an offence
- Taking a vehicle without consent
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)
- Driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act
- Failing to comply with a release order (three counts)
The accused is being held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on May 31, 2024.
