The Hill 70 project has local students going through archives and real-world data to identify soldiers from the First World War battle.
Blake Seward and Mason Black are receiving the Upper Canada District School Board Red Apple Award later this month for the project.
The Smiths Falls and District Collegiate Institute teachers and co-founders of Big Ideas Group Consulting focus on real-world learning and having students make a difference. Seward says they’re doing exactly that.
While they oversee the project, Black says it’s truly student-led.
With that Black says comes a point of pride and ownership for each student.
