Due to the recent warm weather and increased lawn and garden watering, the water treatment plant in Carleton Place has raised the Water Demand Status to Yellow – Conserve.
Although we did see rainfall for a while recently, the lack of snow over the winter months is having an impact on local water levels.
This level indicates that while water usage is higher than normal, it is not yet critical. Residents are encouraged to use water wisely and conserve wherever possible.
To help conserve water, consider the following tips:
– Water lawns and gardens early in the morning or late in the evening to minimize evaporation.
– Opt for drought-resistant plants and trees.
– Mulch gardens and trees to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
– Avoid watering paved areas.
Set your lawnmower blades higher to reduce grass drying.
– Use rain barrels to collect water for gardening.
