Chris Saumure was honored as the 55th Annual Smiths Falls Citizen of the Year on Monday, June 3rd. The ceremony, hosted by the Smiths Falls Kinsmen Club, took place at the Smiths Falls Golf & Country Club. The Citizen of the Year award, established in 1969 by Mayor T.O. Ashwell, M.D., celebrates citizens who contribute positively to the town through volunteer efforts.
Saumure, known for his proactive approach and dedication to Smiths Falls, has been described as a man of action. He focuses on finding solutions and making things happen, which has driven many local projects. His contributions include work on the former SFDCI High School, the community bandstand at Town Hall, and the construction of over 200 apartments. He has also partnered on affordable housing projects in the town.
Mayor Shawn Pankow praised Saumure, stating, “Chris, as President of the Saumure Group of Companies, has made unparalleled contributions to Smiths Falls. His commitment to community, business expertise, and family values have left a lasting mark on our town.”
