With the refresh of the pride crosswalks, a new pink bench has been installed at Beckwith and Church Street, creating a new “inclusion corner” downtown.
The color pink symbolizes anti-bullying in Canada.
Pink Shirt Day started in 2007 when two students stood up against homophobic bullying by distributing pink shirts after a new student was harassed for wearing pink.
Community Services Coordinator Tana Torch suggested the pink bench.
She hopes the inclusion corner will become a focal point for community engagement, celebrating diversity and fostering understanding.
Torch says the pink bench represents love, acceptance, and diversity, reminding everyone of the dignity and respect every individual deserves.
The Smiths Falls For All Committee fully supports this initiative, aimed at promoting a diverse and inclusive community.
