During last weekend’s Canada Day traffic initiative, Ontario Provincial Police officers across East Region laid a total of 2,412 charges from June 21 to July 1.
These initial results may increase as additional reports are added.
The charges include 1,309 for speeding, 47 for stunt driving, 87 for impaired driving, 24 for distracted driving, 134 for seatbelt violations, 32 for not wearing PFDs or life jackets on marine vessels, and 11 for helmet violations on off-road vehicles.
The remainder of the charges fall under various acts, including the Highway Traffic Act, Liquor Licence Act, Off-Road Vehicles Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, and Canada Shipping Act.
Additionally, officers issued nearly 900 warnings during this period.
OPP officers across the East Region will continue to patrol throughout the summer to ensure the safety of people on highways, trails, and waterways.
They urge everyone to follow the rules and help keep the community safe.
