The Smiths Falls Police Services Board has officially announced the appointment of Jodi Empey as Police Chief for the Town of Smiths Falls.
Chief Empey joined the Smiths Falls Police Service as a recruit in 1994 and has moved up the ranks throughout her 30-year career. She held the position of Deputy Chief in 2022 and recently served as Acting Police Chief from January 1, 2024, following former Chief Mark MacGillivray’s retirement.
Chief Empey brings a deep understanding of the Service’s history, community needs, and future vision. She has demonstrated professionalism and leadership in all ranks, building strong relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and residents.
“We were pleased to see Chief Empey become the first female Deputy Chief and now Police Chief in our history,” said Shawn Pankow, Chairperson of the Smiths Falls Police Services Board.
Chief Empey expressed her honor in becoming the 20th Chief since 1881, noting, “I have an amazing team within the Service, and I look forward to continuing to work with them as we move forward with a positive vision and direction for the community we serve.”
