Lanark County saw a bustling weekend as cottagers, campers, and boaters flocked to the region, despite the ongoing LCBO strike.
The local LCBO agency stores in Rideau Ferry and Innisville appeared busier than usual, catering to the influx of summer tourists.
Dozens of local workers with Ontario’s main liquor retailer are entering Day 3 of their historic strike. Close to 10,000 workers at the Liquor Control Board of Ontario began their first-ever strike on Friday morning after months of unsuccessful contract negotiations between their union and management.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) has expressed concerns that Premier Doug Ford’s accelerated plan to expand the alcohol market could lead to job losses.
LCBO retail locations are expected to remain closed for at least 14 days, though convenience outlets in smaller communities will stay open, and online ordering is available with product limits in place.
At the end of the two-week period, 32 stores are set to reopen, but it remains uncertain which of the more than 600 locations province-wide will be included.
