There has been another spike in drug overdoses in the southern part of our listening area, and as always there is concern it could spread here, as drugs are often wide-ly shared across the region.
Smiths Falls Police shared a warning from yesterday from their counterparts in Brockville, which says “Within the last several hours, we have received multiple reports of separate, unrelated drug overdoses.”
It adds that emergency services responded quickly to assist those in need.
They also point out that none of the the incidents resulted in fatalities; however, there is an increased concern for public safety regarding dangerous substances.
If you are a user, never use alone and make sure you have a Naloxone kit in case of overdose. Should a situation arise, call 9-1-1. There are protections in place through the Good Samaritan Act that protect users from possession and other charges if they report an overdose in progress.
If Naloxone is administered, an ER visit is still neccesary.
