Local volunteer group Community Housing Initiative Perth (orCHIP), has announced they were successful in obtaining $2.5M in County funding for their $4.3M project at 63 Halton Street for a 15-unit building.
CHIP will act as advisors during construction, and after completion, and will provide community support for future tenants.
In a release, CHIP Co-Chair Reverend Ken Davis stated “It’s extremely exciting to see Lanark County, the Town of Perth, together with local volunteers, Carebridge and the Saumure Group all moving together to support this project. Those who work with people in need in Perth say the single greatest priority is to increase units of local Affordable Housing. We are thrilled that our County leaders have gone above and beyond our initial request for help with this project.”
Of the 15 apartments, 7 will be eligible for County rent supplements for deeply affordable housing and the remainder will be priced below average market rates.
Plans call for an early 2026 occupancy if permitting and approvals are granted by the Town.
