PDCI grad Clara Misener has received a $70,000 TD Scholarship for her leadership in the community.
Over the years, Clara has spearheaded efforts to help bees, butterflies, and the environment in general.
Clara told our Lynda D’Aoust she was shocked to win the scholarship.
Clara has been involved in environmental initiatives in her school and community since Grade 8.
She joined the Lanark Youth Climate Action Group and co-founded a chapter of the David Suzuki Foundation Butterflyway Project. Lately she’s been helping citizens establish pollinator gardens and supporting the start-up of shared community gardens in the region.
Clara told Lynda that the scholarship process was lengthy. It started with a series of essays about her community involvement. Finalists were then chosen for interviews to determine their scholars.
Clara is off to McGill University in the Fall to begin her studies in bioengineering, where she hopes to one day focus on making medical solutions more environmentally friendly.
