A man wanted in connection with a July 9 incident in Maberly is now in custody. The disturbance occurred on Bennett Lake Road, where a person reported being threatened and a gun was seen.
Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrived at the scene and tried to stop a fleeing vehicle. The driver evaded several cruisers and a spike belt, escaping the area.
The Lanark OPP has arrested William Scharf, 50, of Drummond-North Elmsley. He is charged with fleeing from a peace officer and dangerous operation of a vehicle. Scharf turned himself in Wednesday and was scheduled for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
Thomas Hale, 35, of Tay Valley Township, was arrested the day of the incident and charged with obstructing a peace officer. He is set to appear in court on August 26, 2024.
The OPP believes this was a targeted incident with no risk to public safety.
