Mississippi Mills Council and staff joined an exciting announcement by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario on June 28 at Ottawa Valley Grain Products in Carp. The company, one of eight food manufacturers sharing $18.4 million in funding, received $3 million to modernize its Carp facility and build a new commercial grain mill in Mississippi Mills.
On July 15, Mississippi Mills Council approved a Zoning By-law Amendment for the new $11.3 million grain mill. Mayor Christa Lowry expressed excitement about the project, highlighting agriculture as a key economic driver in the community.
Ottawa Valley Grain Products, a fourth-generation family-owned business since 1929, aims to enhance its capacity and support local farmers with this expansion. President Jennifer Stewart emphasized the significance of the investment for both the company and the local grain industry.
Tiffany MacLaren, Manager of Community and Economic Development, praised the project for its potential to create quality jobs and economic opportunities. The community eagerly anticipates the new facility’s impact on the local economy.
