Quick thinking by an LCBO employee resulted in the arrest of a robbery suspect.
On Sunday, The Smiths Falls Police Service released a photo of a suspect involved in a theft at a Rexall Pharmacy.
The following day, on July 29th, an LCBO employee recognized the suspect while they were browsing in the liquor store.
The employee took a photo of the suspect’s license plate, which eventually led to the arrest of 53-year-old Mark Rogers on Tuesday.
“I have personally thanked the LCBO employee for going above and beyond her job in assisting the police. We had a lot of calls from the community about possible sightings of this male, and that’s what policing in our community is about,” SFPS Chief Jodi Empey said in a media release.
At the time of his arrest, Rogers was out on parole for break and enter with intent and was also unlawfully at large, a story all too familiar for Empey and police.
“[This is] another example of our justice system allowing high risk parole violators out in the community with very little supervision in place. His warrant wasn’t put out until Sunday- the day he committed this offence. Once his warrant expires, he will be back out again with a high risk to re-offend. Someone needs to advocate for victims, in this case a young cashier just doing their job.”
