More than a thousand homes received letters from the Leeds Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit informing them that their child would be suspended from school due to lack of immunization records.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linna Li tells myFM says having up to date records is critical for the health unit to determine vaccination rates and answer some key questions.
The doctor stresses that they don’t want to suspend kids from school and acknowledges that just because they don’t have the records, doesn’t mean they aren’t vaccinated.
Director of Clinical Services and Population Health Rebecca Fergusson says making sure your child can go to school is quite simple parents just have to:
Parents can also provide the Health Unit with a statement of medical exemption, a statement of conscience or religious belief affidavit to exempt the student, or submit proof of a booked immunization appointment
If parents need help through the process they can call 1-800-660-5853 ext. 2313 or send an email to ImmunizationNursingSupport@healthunit.org.
