The Village of Merrickville-Wolford has been awarded a $197,900 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to upgrade its historic community centre.
The centre, which has been a vital gathering place for 125 years, will receive significant improvements to enhance accessibility and preserve its heritage.
The grant will fund the addition of clearly defined formal entrances that comply with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), along with new siding, porticos, and a veranda. These upgrades are designed to promote inclusivity and restore community pride.
Accessible interior and exterior doorways are expected to be installed by the end of this year, while major exterior renovations are planned for 2025.
Village officials have expressed their gratitude to the Ontario Trillium Fund for supporting the project, which will ensure the community centre remains a welcoming space for all residents.
