Emergency crews rushed to a serious single-vehicle crash on Highway 7, just west of Carleton Place, on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. when a car veered off the road, plunging down an embankment and hitting a hydro pole. Fortunately, the pole’s wires stayed intact.
Traffic heading west on Highway 7 was stopped and police had initially closed lanes in both directions. Crews eventually allowed traffic to pass through the eastbound lane.
Rescue teams worked quickly to free the trapped driver, who was later airlifted to the hospital by Ornge Air Ambulance. The Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that the individual sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
Drivers are advised to remain cautious behind the wheel. Leave plenty of distance, keep your speed down, buckle up, and shut off distractions.
