Mississippi Mills Council is advancing its climate action efforts with a new roadside pollinator project. Residents are invited to nominate locations for a 1-kilometre pollinator habitat on rural, municipally-owned roads by September 20. The project, aimed at supporting Monarch butterflies and other pollinators, will use an Ontario native seed mix and be completed this fall.
This initiative is part of the Municipality’s commitment to the Mayors’ Monarch Pledge and follows the success of its first native roadside pollinator habitat on Sugarbush Road. Other 2024 actions include reducing herbicide use, launching an invasive species removal program, and developing a local Climate Action Plan (CAP).
The CAP will set greenhouse gas reduction targets and outline strategies to help the Municipality address and adapt to climate change. Mayor Christa Lowry highlighted the importance of these efforts in positioning Mississippi Mills for a sustainable future.
