Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randell held onto a $35 million secret for three weeks before it was made public.
He learned the town was receiving the highest dollar amount from the province to expand its Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant from Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan and had to sit on it until last week.
When myFM caught up with him, the excitement hadn’t waned.
The mayor says a host of options are created down the road with this cash influx
Randell says right now they expect the expansion to cost around $70 million.
The town will be taking out a loan to pay the difference and use development charges to pay off their portion over several years, meang there’ll be no hit to the taxpayer.
Construction is expected to start in early 2025 and will include new headworks and new aeration tanks, increased clarifiers, sludge thickening and increased sludge storage, a new Membrane Bio Reactor treatment system, a new ultraviolet system, and increased primary digestion.
