Perth’s Town Hall will be closed on Monday, Sept. 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The Perth Landfill will follow with a closure on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Residents are advised to check with their local municipalities, as other towns may observe similar closures.
The statutory holiday applies to federal employees and workers in federally regulated workplaces. This means banks, post offices, and other federally regulated services will be closed on the day.
However, Ontario does not observe this day as a paid statutory holiday. As a result, provincial government offices and services will remain open.
For Perth residents, any business with federal links will be closed, but local and provincial services should be accessible.
The community is encouraged to take this day to reflect on the importance of reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
