Lanark County OPP are investigating a fraud that targets garages.
At least three area businesses have been contacted by a woman who goes by Helene said she wants to buy a large quanity of tires and rims, and her husband will pick them up and pay when he gets there.
Two men later arrive and pay with a credit card, but then the businesses learn the credit card was reported stolen so the payment is frozen, leaving them with no tires and no money.
The men picking up the tires are described as being black. One is bald, the other has dreadlocks. Both men speak only in French.
Similar incidents have also been reported in the Pembroke area.
Lanark OPP wants to warn other business in the region to be alert to this operation. The best practice is to verify the credit card before the customer leaves with your product.
