On Thursday, October 10, divers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Underwater Search and Recovery Unit successfully retrieved a vehicle from the Rideau River in Lower Reach Park in Smiths Falls.
Fortunately, no human remains were discovered inside the car.
The vehicle, reported stolen in the 1990s, was originally taken from a jurisdiction near Thunder Bay. Authorities believe it was likely dumped in the river in 1997.
This recovery effort is part of an ongoing investigation involving both OPP resources and the Smiths Falls Police Service. The collaboration aims to uncover more details surrounding the vehicle’s history and assist in any related cases.
The OPP and Smiths Falls Police Service urge anyone with information about the vehicle or related incidents to come forward.
