Paula Banks’ pay was suspended for 16 days and Marcia Maxwell’s 42 after both were found to have breached the township’s code of conduct.
Banks spoke called the Rideau Lakes Grassroots Group a “hate group,” during a May meeting, with Integrity Commissioner William R. Hunter suggesting a 16-day pay suspension.
Maxwell helped the same group distribute flyers that spoke negatively of council. The integrity commissioner report stated that action itself did not violate confidentiality or misuse township resources, but they brought the municipality into disrepute, leading to an 8-day pay suspension recommendation.
A second report surrounded Maxwell’s behaviour during council meetings, which came again with an 8-day pay suspension recommendation.
Council voted to extend the total pay suspension to 42 days for both infractions.
Both votes passed narrowly, with a 4-3 vote to suspend the pay of Banks for 16 days, and a 5-3 in favour vote for Maxwell’s 42-day pay suspension.
Another report surrounding the actions of Councillor Linda Carr is being published Tuesday.
