Smiths Falls is looking at cancelling its liquor license at the Memorial Community Centre.
It’s a move to mitigate the town’s risk exposure, Director of Community Services Stephanie Clark explained.
The town will also be saving money on insurance premiums and additional staff training that’s required to maintain a license they’re not actively using.
This does not prevent user groups from operating alcohol-included events at the arena, it will just be done under their own license.
It also won’t impact the town’s ability to apply for special event permits.
