Rideau Lakes council voted 5-4 in favour to sign a contract with IDEA to craft drawings and gather an estimate to renovate the existing municipal offices in Chantry.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom says this decision is going against public opinion.
A report that recommends a new build on an alternate site would cost about $3.619 million, whereas fixing the existing property would come in at $3.66 million, moving to about $4 million for temporary staff accommodation.
Councillor Paula Banks doesn’t see the purpose of constructing a new site.
The voting breakdown to support further exploration of a renovating the existing offices went as follows:
Jeff Banks – Yes
Paula Banks- Yes
Linda Carr -Yes
Joan Delaney – No
Sue Dunfield– Yes
Deborah Hutchings– Yes
Ron Pollard – No
Marcia Maxwell – No
Arie Hoogenboom – No
