Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson agrees with mayors of the communities in our listening area along the Rideau Canal Corridor that a decision has to be made about the LaSalle Causeway Bridge before 2025’s tourism season arrives.
The bridge allows many vessels into the system. It was damaged at the beginning of last year’s navigation season, which affected tourism in a big way.
Paterson says he would like to a solution that comes from all stakeholders involved.
The mayors along the Rideau Corridor have met and are worried about next summer’s tourism season.
Paterson says the federal government is working hard on the file.
The Corridor Mayors suggest a solution may be taking the temporary bridge out every weekend during the boating season.
While Paterson admits it does have to come out, he is not sure about the frequency.
All involved said they’d like to see a permanent solution fast tracked by the federal government.
