The Smiths Falls Police Service is promoting Ontario’s Crime Prevention Week, running until Saturday, November 9th, with the theme of community safety as a shared responsibility.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and call 9-1-1 if they witness a crime or suspect dangerous activity.
To deter crime, police recommend homeowners leave lights on, collect their mail, and make their homes appear occupied. Security measures like outdoor lighting, sturdy locks, and alarms are also encouraged. The force emphasizes community engagement—connecting with neighbours, volunteering, and promptly reporting suspicious behaviour.
Smiths Falls Police are using this awareness week to reinforce that anticipation, observation, and prompt action can significantly reduce crime. The campaign aims to empower residents to work together in preventing crime and maintaining safety in their neighbourhoods.
