13 Ontario mayors have asked Premier Doug Ford to enact the notwithstanding clause which would allow them to direct police to clear out encampments by any means necessary.
41 municipal councillors across the province and now the Town of Smiths Falls are asking Ford not to do that.
Mayor Shawn Pankow shared his thoughts.
Councillor Stephen Robinson says the clause steps on human rights.
Last month the town adopted its own encampment policy which focuses on a compassionate approach to handling the situations which may arise.
