Rideau Lakes Township will put forth a motion calling on the province to take mental health and addictions issues more seriously.
This action came from an initial call for support by the Town of Cobourg for involuntary care of extreme cases.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom took issue with that phrase.
The motion was put forth in Rideau Lakes by Councillor Paula Banks who shared personal experience with a loved one who has schizophrenia.
She said through her experience, it’s clear there’s cracks in the system.
The motion failed following a tie vote, as there was shared concerns, including from Banks, around the term “involuntary care.”
