A member of our myFM family, Grant Deme, is recovering after undergoing liver transplant surgery in Toronto yesterday.
His family says the doctor was pleased with the procedure and that Grant, though still sedated, showed signs of his trademark sense of humor when they visited early Tuesday.
To say we’re all grateful would be an understatement.
The donor is also doing well, and Grant’s family is grateful for the successful operation. Grant will remain in Toronto for several weeks of recovery before returning to Perth, where his healing process will continue for up to six months.
Grant’s situation has raised awareness about the importance of organ donation and the critical need for living donors. Those interested in becoming a living donor can find more information on Canadian Blood Services’ living donor website here, or learn about general organ donation at BeADonor.ca.
Both organizations offer resources to help people get involved and make a life-saving difference.
