Toby Randell, Mayor of Carleton Place, Community Development Coordinator Jessica Hansen, and Communications Coordinator Amanda Charania met with Ambassador Dauletbek Kussainov at the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Carleton Place scored big as it became a host community to welcome the Kazakhstan Junior Hockey Team for their Pre-Competition Camp leading up to the IIHF World Juniors Championship. From December 17th to 22nd the team called the Carleton Place Arena their training ground.
The team not only trained but also stayed and dined in the community, getting a taste of local culture and hospitality. Mayor Toby Randell expressed pride in the town’s hockey roots, and encouraged residents to support the team, saying, “Let’s make Carleton Place their home away from home.”
Carleton Place was one of seven Canadian towns selected to host teams for the tournament. Local efforts focused on providing meals, securing ice time, and sharing the town’s hockey spirit. From the size and spirit of the crowds that attended practice sessions and interacted with the team, it was a great success.
