The Mississippi River Health Alliance (MRHA) marked a major milestone with the grand opening of the Thomas Cavanagh Emergency Department at Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital (CPDMH). This state-of-the-art facility promises to enhance healthcare for the region, offering modern, patient-centered care and improved staff efficiency.
The event was attended by local leaders, donors, and the Cavanagh family, whose generosity was key to the project’s success. Brad Harrington, MRHA President and CEO, praised the dedication of ED staff, calling the facility a symbol of their resilience. Former Carleton Place Deputy Mayor Jerry Flynn, one of the drivers of the new ER, noted what it means to his community.
Ontario Deputy Premier Sylvia Jones highlighted the provincial government’s investment in local healthcare, echoed by MPP John Jordan, who celebrated the ED as a vital step toward accessible care. He explains how the project succeeded.
Exclusive tours showcased the thoughtfully designed space ahead of its official opening on January 29, 2025, when it will begin welcoming patients.
