The proposed development (2023)
At a recent Perth Council meeting, Mayor Judy Brown spoke on what she considered extreme cases of misinformation related to the Caivan Community’s proposal to develop the former Perth Golf Course lands.
She was responding to emails she has received accusing her and council of actions on the file that were not in the interest of residents. While council is under legal advice not to speak publicly on the matter, Mayor Brown felt compelled to correct some very inaccurate assumptions on the part of the public. The first accused her of actively recruiting Caivan to purchase the golf course property.
She added that she never met Caivan principles until after they made the purchase. She also refuted the notion that the final outcome and resulting approvals were already decided.
The Town, Lanark County and Caivan have agreed to mediationm which the Ontario Land Tribunal has ordered to be completed by March 31st. Brown also responded to emails that expressed fears that homes would be built on the flood plain surrounding the tract.
The Mayor also explained that she and council declined to attend two public meetings hosted by the group Perth Citizens for Sensible Development as their presence could be construed as an improper council meeting and any comments an individual councilor might make would be taken as representing all of council.
