The Town of Carleton Place has reached an agreement with the federal government to fast-track 168 new homes over the next three years, thanks to over $5.6 million from the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).
The funding is part of a national initiative to cut red tape, end restrictive zoning, and boost housing density. Carleton Place’s plan includes zoning changes, streamlined approval processes, and partnerships with housing providers to spur the construction of 934 homes over the next decade.
Mayor Toby Randell says the funding will help ensure long-term sustainability and meet the community’s housing needs. Housing Minister Nathaniel Erskine-Smith emphasized the federal commitment to removing barriers and speeding up development.
The town will decide how to allocate any remaining funds beyond its seven approved initiatives, which include infrastructure investments and affordable housing projects.
