Smiths Falls Town Council has recommended to ban Councillor Dawn Quinn from attending the next 10 in-camera meetings following an investigation into a leaked confidential report.
The town’s Integrity Commissioner, Tony Fleming, presented the findings at Monday’s meeting, stating that Quinn “likely” leaked information from a closed council session in July 2024.
Councillor Peter McKenna said this type of breach is of the highest concern.
The commissioner concluded that, based on the available evidence, Quinn was the probable source of the leak, discovered when a member of the public contacted the mayor with details from the meeting.
Although Quinn did not deny being the source, she claimed she was too busy to spread rumors.
Mayor Shawn Pankow and several councillors supported the 10-meeting ban, emphasizing the need to protect confidentiality.
However, Steve Robinson was one who opposed the sanctions.
Councillor Jennifer Miller also opposed the sanctions.
Final approval of the ban will be decided at the next meeting.
