Residents of Perth continue to speak out as we wait for the results from the Ontario Land Tribunal’s mediated between Caivan, the group planning a more than 1000-unit housing development on the Perth Golf Course lands, The Town of Perth, and Lanark County.
On February 11th, a petition against the construction containing more than 450 signatures was presented to the Town of Perth by the Perth Citizens for Responsible Development.
Jennifer Dickson is a resident of Perth and former Tay Valley Councillor, with extensive experience serving the community.
She now lives down the road from the proposed development and is concerned about the impact the project will have on her neighbourhood and the greater community of Perth.
Especially as new traffic gets added to the area.
Another concern is the foot traffic in the area. Dickson says many live in the town because it is very walkable.
The project itself will take quite a while to complete, which Dickson feels will have a large impact on life in the area, which will ripple through the town.
Dickson adds that a second bridge wouldn’t be ready in time to help. And once complete, would be spreading the problem to two part of the town.
She stresses that it’s not just about the impact to her neighbourhood but what will happen to the town overall and says turning to our neighbours for support and inspiration for everyone’s advantage.
We continue to follow developments closely and will provide the Land Tribunal’s decision as soon as it becomes available.
