A crowd of about 170 filled the Perth Civitan hall for an all candidates meeting hosted by the Perth and Carleton Place Chambers of Commerce.
Four candidates from the main parties and one independent fielded a dozen questions covering broader issues like healthcare and housing to local focused topics such as Caivan Communities’ Ontario Land Tribunal process and the pending closure of Algonguin College.
Sue Park from Perth found the event very helpful and informative
She added that while it didn’t confirm who she would vote for, it certainly helped her eliminate some of the choices.
Sue Martin of Almonte believed the discussion helped her connect local views with provincial party platforms
The evening was peppered with polite applause for candidates’ answers.
There was mixed reaction though when Incumbent PC John Jordan answered a question on whether or not the Ontario Land Tribunal should be reformed or abolished in light of Perth’s difficulties with Caivan Communities’ proposal to build 1,000 homes on the former Perth Golf Course Lands.
The meeting was organized by the Chambers of Commerce in Perth and Carleton Place.
Election day is February 27th.
