Smiths Falls Councillor Dawn Quinn will not be barred from 10 in-camera sessions after a motion to implement a sanction on her was defeated in a 3-3 tie.
The motion was put forth by members of council after an integrity commissioner’s report found Quinn to be the most likely source of leaked confidential information which came from a closed session.
Tony Fleming’s report did not reccomend a sanction due to what he called circumstantial evidence leading to his findings, but said council could impose one of their own should they see fit.
Councilor Peter McKenna made the case for imposing the sanction prior to the vote.
Councillor Jay Brennan, attending the meeting virtually, said he contemplated this matter for a number of days before deciding against sanctions.
As required by municipal legislation, the report will be posted on the town’s website for the next five years.
Councillors McKenna, Chris McGuire, and Mayor Shawn Pankow voted in favour of the sanction.
Councillors Brennan, Jennifer Miller, and Stephen Robinson were opposed.
