After finding initial support, Rideau Lakes Township is not banning third-party flags from being flown at town hall.
The proposed amendments to their previous by-law would have seen special interest organizations no longer allowed to request a flag be flown for up to one week.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom felt the changes would have led to groups feeling disregarded.
Councillor Deborah Anne Hutchings felt the proposed changes would not have been discriminatory towards any individual or group.
The by-law would’ve seen only the Canadian, Rideau Lakes, and Ontario flags be flown on municipal grounds.
It passed in a 5-4 vote on first and second reading, but the third and final reading, which would’ve made the bylaw official, failed.
