Alexander Lawson, representing Cavanagh Construction provided a report to Mississippi Mills council indicating that their seasonal load restrictions on municipal roads were actually causing more damage than they were preventing, especially when it comes to concrete-mixer trucks.
The upcoming spring weight limits of five kilograms per axle means nine more trips per job.
Citing a study done by Concrete Ontario, Lawson showed that nine concrete truck trips cause up to 1.8% road damage compared to 1.2% maximum damage from two trips.
This was in addition to more fuel consumption, higher greenhouse gas emissions and increased traffic congestion.
Council directed staff to prepare a report on the request for concrete truck exemption and bring it back to council for further discussion.
