A 23-year-old man has been arrested after a firearm was recovered during an investigation Friday.
Smiths Falls Police responded to a tip about a male suspect walking with a gun on Lanark Street. Officers quickly located the suspect inside a home on McCann Street. With assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), a perimeter was established while the SFPS Incident Commander and Crisis Negotiator worked to peacefully resolve the situation.
The suspect, later identified as Jessie Chouinor, surrendered without incident. A search warrant was executed at the residence with the help of the OPP K-9 unit. Police seized a firearm and ammunition during the search.
Chouinor faces several charges, including possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and failure to comply with court orders. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
