Rideau Lakes Mayor Arie Hoogenboom has had enough and needs to take some time away from council to rest and recharge.
He told myFM he’s following the advice of his doctors, families and friends in doing so, and said the break will be for at least a couple of months.
This comes just days after Councillor Joan Delaney announced her resignation for similar reasons.
Hoogenboom said being on the wrong side of the council divide means there’s little he can do from within.
He has a message for the residents who are appalled by the behaviour of this council.
He told myFM his preferred outcome would be to see the provincial government step in to reset this council.
Hoogenboom will stay clear from responsibilities involving council but will continue with other mayoral duties, as well as contribute to United Counties of Leeds and Grenville council where he said his input is valued.
Deputy Mayor Paula Banks will chair council meetings during Hoogenboom’s break. The township rotates the deputy mayor position every six months and it’s currently Banks’ role.
