With tariffs in place and others looming, cross-border shoppers are asking questions like what can I bring back from the States? And how much?
Craig Kennedy with the Lansdowne Port of Entry, has some answers.
He says stay within your exemptions, or it could get expensive.
Kennedy says it is a good idea to check out the list before making any purchases south of the border.
Canadian Border Services says declaring items is the number one priority when crossing the border. Kennedy says that allows them to their jobs to the best of your benefit.
There are a few exemptions in certain cases where you would have to pay extra taxes too.
He adds tariffs come into play in certain situations.
If you go for a State-side day trip your exemption is $200 per person. That goes up to $800 for a stay of 48 hours or more.
The list of items applicable to the surtax can be found here.
